Sindh universities VCs meeting to consider revival of students unions

The Sindh government has called a meeting of the vice chancellors of 27 public universities on November 28 at 12 noon for revival of the students union in the government universities of the province.

In the meeting, the procedure for the implementation of the decision to restore student unions in universities will be decided.

It should be remembered that the Provincial Cabinet and the Sindh Assembly have approved the Students Union Restoration Bill, however, all the universities established before 1984, whose number is less than 7, that there is a provision related to the Students Union and their officials in the Act, but now The number of universities has increased to 27 but there is no mention of student union in the act of these 20 universities.

On February 9, 1984, General Zia-ul-Haq banned students unions.

Before the ban, the syndicate of Karachi University had two members of the students union, one of whom was the president of Karachi University and the other was the president of the affiliated colleges. Since 1984, students have not been represented in the Syndicate of University of Karachi.
