Statue of Maharaja Ranjit Singh smashed in Lahore

LAHORE Aug 17,2021 – The statue of Maharaja Ranjit Singh, the founder of the Sikh Empire, was smashed in the royal fort of Lahore.

Video of Raja Ranjit Singh’s statue being smashed has surfaced. It can be seen in the video that a young man dressed in white shirt and shalwar smashed the statue made of cold bronze of Raja Ranjit Singh the with the help of a hammer and dropped it from the horse.

According to Lahore police, the accused who damaged the statue of Raja Ranjit Singh has been arrested.

Lahore police said the accused damaged the statue with a hammer.

The arm of the statue of Maharaja Ranjit Singh was also broken in Lahore in December 2020 by accused Zeeshan.

Police also arrested the young man who damaged the statue and registered a case.

Maharaja Ranjit Singh was the ruler of the Sikh empire spread across many parts of Pakistan, with Punjab being the main territory, parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and even southern parts of the country.

His statue was unveiled in the Lahore Fort at the Mai Jindan Haveli, on the emperor’s 180th death anniversary, by Sikh historian, writer and filmmaker Bobby Singh Bansal.

Bansal’s London-based organisation the S.K. Foundation had funded the statue. It was sculpted by local artists, under the aegis of the Fakir Khana Museum.
