ISLAMABAD: As Senate met for the first session, five parties demanded allotment of separate Opposition benches. The Opposition alliance, the PDM, saw a clear division in the Senate meeting on Monday, with three opposition parties calling questions on Yusuf Raza Gilani, which also led to protests in the House.

“We are protesting in the House over the election of the three parties leader of the opposition,” said Senator Shafiq Taren.

During the meeting, PPP Senator Raza Rabbani introduced the Constitution Amendment Bill 2021 in the Upper House.

He said that the powers of the Senate are less than those of the National Assembly, where as the powers of the houses should be equal. The bill called for increasing the powers of the Senate.

 Raza Rabbani said that the Chief Ministers of the provinces should be allowed to speak in the Senate.

Chairman Senate Sadiq Sanjarani said that there will be a frank investigation into the house’s secret cameras in the Senate election.

The opposition leader in the Senate Yousuf Raza Gilani, has said that the PDM had a purpose that the Constitution, human rights be given, we will continue to raise voice for it.

Shahzad Waseem urged the formation of the committees to be given to the Chairman Senate. Senate unanimously approved the House motion.

Prior to the Senate meeting, the opposition parties had a meeting in the Senate of the PML-N, chaired by PML-N Senator Azam Nazar Tarar.

PDM Secretary General Shahid Khaqan Abbasi said that the purpose of issuing show cause notices to the PPP and the ANP is to ask the PPP to answer why you got the votes of the government members.
