Media Joint Action Committee stages walk out against PECA

ISLAMABAD, Feb 22,2022- The Media Joint Action Committee (JAC) walked out of a meeting of the Ministry of Information on the issue of draconian amendments to the Prevention of Electronic Crimes (PECA) Act.

Among those who walked out of the Information Ministry meeting were APNS, CPN, PFUJ, PBA, AM and Media Joint Action Committee.

The Media Joint Action Committee said that the meeting of the Ministry of Information was a drama.

The JAC announced that till suspension of the PECA  amendments until they had withdrawn, and said that ordinances against freedom of expression were being passed.

According to the Joint Action Committee, the government is giving the impression that the media community is being consulted on the issue of the PECA Amendment Ordinance.

According to the JAC, there are many instances where the Ministry of Information is distorting freedom of speech, blocking the right of journalists to report.

According to the Joint Action Committee, the Ministry of Information is financially weakening the media to influence journalism.
