LAHORE, Feb 22-2022 -Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA) Amendment Ordinance 2022 has been challenged in the Lahore High Court.

Local lawyer Saeed Zafar has made the federal government and others as respondents in his petition against the PECA Amendment Ordinance.

The petitioner has taken the position that the PECA Amendment Ordinance has been brought to silence the voice of journalists.

The government wants to achieve its goals by bringing in the PECA Amendment Ordinance. Issuing a Presidential Ordinance in the presence of Parliament is unconstitutional.

President Lahore High Court Bar Association President Muhammad Maqsood Butter and other bar officials have expressed support for challenging the amended ordinance.

President High Court Bar Shehab Sarki has said that PECA will approach the court against the amendment in the law.

He further added that the amendment to the PECA law violates freedom of expression and fundamental rights.
