ISLAMABAD Feb 20,222- PPP leaders Sherry Rehman and Shazia Mari oppose ordinance changing election rules and termed this move as unconstitutional.

In response to the Presidential Ordinance on changes in the rules of the Election Commission of Pakistan, PPP leader Sherry Rehman said that the ordinance regarding the participation of MPs and ministers in the election campaign is unconstitutional, the federal government has no power to make changes in the rules of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP).

Sherry Rehman said that the federal government can only recommend changes in the rules to the ECP, the government is constantly trying to rob the mandate of the ECP.

She further said that the National Assembly session was canceled to bring a Presidential Ordinance, adding that the President could not make any change in the Election Act.

The PPP leader asked how the ministers could be allowed to campaign. Ministers can use financial resources to influence elections.

She also said that the PTI was confused after the defeat in the by-elections and local body elections.

Parliament did not consider Election Commission of Pakistan’s report on EVM

PPP Information Secretary Shazia Mari has said that the amendments in the Election Act and Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA) law are a conspiracy, the amendments in the Election Act is a new plan to rig the upcoming elections.

In a statement, Shazia Mari said that the government is showing its incompetence and failure, now the law is being changed for personal gain.

PPP leader Shazia Mari said that they will not allow the government to steal the elections through illegal means.
