3-Day Model United Nations opening ceremony in SMI University held

Karachi: October 14, 2022 – The opening ceremony of 3-Day Model United Nations in SMI University (MUNISM) was held in collaboration with the Directorate of Students Affairs and Counselling (DSA), SMIU on Friday, October 14, 2022 at the Sir Shahnawaz Bhutto Auditorium of the varsity.

Dr. Mujeeb Sahrai, Vice Chancellor SMIU, who was the chief guest of the event, in his speech said the Model United Nations (MUN) has played a historical role in nurturing leadership skills of students worldwide since 1912, much before establishment of the United Nations. He said the MUN has made student community strong in the world and has brought them close to the United Nations through their activities.
Dr. Mujeeb Sahrai urges participating students that they, besides other current issues of the world must talk on destruction and devastation of Pakistan specially its Sindh province caused by torrential rains and floods. “Almost half of the population of Sindh has been affected from it.

It has also badly affected education process specially in rural areas of the province,” the Vice Chancellor said and added that infra structure have been destroyed and buildings of schools have been collapsed too, thus students must talk on such issues.” He further said SMIU is also thinking to play its role in restoration of academic activities in flood affected areas.
The Vice Chancellor congratulated Wafa Mansoor Buriro, lecture of English Department and patron UNISMI, Dr. Asif Ali Wagan, Director of Directorate of Students Affairs and Counselling and Dr. Aamir Iqbal Umrani, Director ORIC for putting their sincere efforts behind the event.

Earlier, Wafa Mansoor Buriro in his welcome address said the main objective of MUNISM was to enhance leadership and citizenship skills of students, because they have to buildup society in future. He also thanked the Vice Chancellor Dr. Mujeeb Sahrai for extending support for organising this mega event, in which delegates of other educational institutions have participated. He also praised the role of Dr. Asif Ali Wagan Dr. Aamir Iqbal Umrani playing to make the event successful.
Dr. Asif Ali Wagan appreciated the organisers and said that students of SMIU and other institutions will learn a lot from the sessions which are being organised on different subjects. He thanked the Vice Chancellor for his support.
