NAB closes inquiries against Chaudhry brothers

LAHORE: On the request of the National Accountability Bureau, an accountability court Lahore ordered to close inquiries against Pakistan Muslim League-Q President Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain and Punjab Assembly Speaker Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi.

Chaudhrys are allied party of PTI in center as well as in Punjab.

NAB Prosecutor Hafiz Assad Ullah and the investigation officer appeared on Monday before accountability court judge Sheikh Sajjad Ahmad and said in its plea that NAB had found no trial-worthy material or evidence against the Chaudhry brothers. They requested the court to close the inquiries against them.

The accountability court was informed that NAB Chairman Justice (retd) Javed Iqbal had given approval to close the inquiries.

The court, after hearing the NAB officials, issued orders to close two inquiries against Chaudhry Shujaat and Pervaiz.

The Chaudhrys had been accused of accumulation of assets beyond means, making illegal appointments and money laundering.

NAB had initiated the inquiries against them almost 20 years back.
