MQM Inaugurates Election Office in Bahadurabad as General Elections Loom

MQM Pakistan convener Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui removed all the reservations of Dr. Farooq Sattar and matters were settled. Farooq Sattar is expected to formally announce his return to the party after Eid.

According to the sources, the formula for the adjustment of organizational slots and independent local body candidates has also been decided between Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui and Farooq Sattar.

According to the sources, Farooq Sattar will be adjusted in the party organization Karachi and Hyderabad. Dr. Farooq Sattar’s return to the party is expected to be announced after Eid.

Sources said that a general workers’ meeting is likely to be held at PIB Stadium after Eid. Farooq Sattar’s rejoining MQM is expected to be announced in the meeting.

Sources further inform that Farooq Sattar’s withdrawal from NA-245 and the announcement regarding local body candidates is also expected.

Farooq Sattar political career

In 2016, Sattar was charged for organizing, and facilitating a speech by MQM chief against the military and security agencies.

Later, Farooq Sattar disassociated with London-based leader of MQM supreme saying that MQM will only operate from within Pakistan. He changed the constitution of MQM himself became the new chief saying that “MQM is Pakistan. The party should operate from Pakistan alone.” MQM was registered with the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) in the name of Dr Farooq Sattar as the convener of the coordination committee of MQM.

Following this event MQM’s London-based leadership expelled Sattar from the party.

In November 2017, Farooq Sattar announced Muttahida Quami Movement Pakistan would make a political alliance with Pak Sarzameen Party (PSP). A day later, he announced his resignation from the party and politics. However, he later retracted his resignation after his mother urged him to stay in politics.

In February 2018, he was removed by the Rabita Committee from the convenership position of MQM. The same day, he dissolved the Rabita Committee and called for fresh intra-party election to elect new leader of the party.

In March 2018, The ECP removed him as the convener of the MQM.

In June 2018, IHC removed Farooq Sattar as MQM-P convener. On November 9, 2018, for violating party discipline, his basic membership of MQM-P was revoked.
