IHC frames contempt of court charges against Rana Shamim

ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has indicted former Gilgit-Baltistan Chief Justice Rana Shamim in a contempt of court case while postponing proceedings against journalists.

Chief Justice Athar Minallah heard the Rana Shamim contempt case in the Islamabad High Court.

Former Chief Justice of Gilgit-Baltistan, Rana Shamim, Attorney General Khalid Javed Khan, Additional Attorney General Qasim Wadud, Judicial Assistants Nasir Zaidi, Faisal Siddiqui, Reema Umar, Editor-in-Chief of The News, Editor Investigation Ansar Abbasi and President of Journalists Association Saqib. Bashir appeared in court.

Chief Justice Athar Minallah asked Rana Shamim to come to the rostrum, we want to frame the charges.

Rana Shamim requested the court let his lawyer come.

Chief Justice Athar Minallah said that the court would frame the charge first.

Former Gilgit-Baltistan Judge Rana Shamim said that his lawyer Abdul Latif Afridi Advocate is on the motorway, who will arrive shortly.

Chief Justice of Islamabad High Court Athar Minallah said that the court has been disrespected, it has become a joke. And said “Tell me if anyone has any problem with this court, all the statements have been made about this court.”

Rana Shamim again requested to wait till his lawyers come.

Chief Justice Athar Minallah said that during the hearing we are framing charges against you, you should hear the charges.

After that, Chief Justice of Islamabad Athar Minallah read out the charge sheet against Rana Shamim.

London notary public confirms he verified Justice Shamim’s statement

The charge sheet against Rana Shamim said that he had recorded his affidavit in England. In this statement he had said that Chief Justice Saqib Nisar had come to Gilgit-Baltistan on holiday. According to you, he instructed that Nawaz Sharif and Maryam Nawaz should not done out before the election.

The affidavit was notarized which reached the media and was published on 15th November.  

The indictment states that you said that the affidavit may have been leaked from Notary Public, you did not initiate any action against Notary Public and Ansar Abbasi, you tried to scandalize the court, you tried to influence the pending case by his conduct.

Chief Justice Athar Minallah asked Rana Shamim that all the allegations have been read out to him in the open court. What do you say?

Rana Shamim replied that first you give me a copy of the charges.

Chief Justice Islamabad High Court Athar Minallah asked Rana Shamim if he admits the allegation or not.

Rana Shamim replied to the court that he admits some things and not others.

The Chief Justice of Islamabad High Court directed him to submit in writing if he has anything to say in his defense.

Rana Shamim said that if you have thought like this then punish me today, my lawyer is not present, hang me, why are you singleing me out?

Rana Shamim requested the court that he has to come from Karachi, give him a date of March.
