Court also holds concerned agencies responsible for Mehran Town factory tragedy

The Karachi Sessions Court has held factory owners and concerned agencies have been held responsible for Mehran Town factory tragedy.

The court issued a written decision on the bail application of the accused in the Mehran Town factory tragedy case in which the factory owners and concerned agencies have been held responsible.

The written decision said that not including the concerned agencies in the case would be unfair to the deceased.

The court in its written judgment said that all the concerned agencies were also responsible for the accident.

A written decision issued by the Karachi Sessions Court said that the factory was built on a residential plot without the permission of the concerned agencies.

No Labor Department official ever came to visit, the court said.

The accident has also exposed the performance of Labor Department, SBCA, KMC and others, the court said and added that apparently various flaws and shortcomings caused the accident, the court said.

The court decision said that there were no fire protection arrangements, contrary to the established rules. While the door was also locked and sixteen innocent people died.

The closure of the factory doors is one of the main reasons, the court said and further added that fire brigade arrives late, water shortage, civil defense personnel untrained.

The owners submitted letters of contact to the concerned agencies, but there is no point in such contacts after an unfortunate accident, the court said.

If there are no other concerns, including destruction of evidence, bail can be granted, the court said.
