CJP Qazi Faez Isa Returns Luxurious Official Vehicles to Benefit Public Transport

ISLAMABAD, Dec1,2023: In a noteworthy display of austerity and commitment to responsible use of public resources, Chief Justice of Pakistan, Qazi Faez Isa, has returned two valuable official vehicles designated for his use. The move follows concerns about the extravagant spending on official vehicles for constitutional and public officials.

Details: Chief Justice Isa’s decision to return the vehicles was communicated through a letter from the registrar of the Supreme Court to the Cabinet Secretary and Chief Secretary Punjab. The letter highlighted that the Supreme Court had acquired a luxury car for the Chief Justice in September 2020, costing Rs 6 crore 10 lakh. Additionally, the Punjab government had provided a brand new bulletproof luxury car for the Chief Justice.

Vehicle Status: Both vehicles, designated for the Chief Justice’s use, are currently parked at the Supreme Court Rest House in GOR Lahore, as stated in the letter. Despite being entitled to two vehicles, Chief Justice Qazi Faiz Isa has opted not to use these luxury cars.

Austerity Measures: The registrar’s letter emphasized that Chief Justice Isa considers the use of expensive imported vehicles by constitutional and public officials as an undue burden on the national exchequer. In light of this, the Chief Justice directed that both vehicles be sold, and the proceeds be allocated towards public transport initiatives.

Impact on Public Transport: The decision by Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa is expected to have a positive impact on public transport infrastructure, utilizing the funds from the sale of the luxury vehicles to contribute to the improvement and accessibility of public transportation services.

This move underscores a commitment to fiscal responsibility and sets a precedent for public officials to prioritize judicious use of public funds, setting an example for accountability and transparency in governance. The decision aligns with the Chief Justice’s dedication to serving the public interest and fostering a culture of responsible stewardship of public resources.
