Chuadhry Nisar to take oath tomorrow

LAHORE (May 23, 2021): Former Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan has said that he has decided to take oath as a member of the Punjab Assembly in consultation with his friends.

In a statement, Chaudhry Nisar said that he would take oath as a member of the Punjab Assembly on Monday, May 24. Taking the oath would not change his position or thinking.

He said that he would not take any concessions from the assembly including salary, TA, DA while the purpose of taking oath was to control the political situation and motives in the constituency.

The former interior minister of PML-N government also said that boycotting the elections and leaving the field open would be an even bigger political mistake.

Nisar Ali Khan further said that the corona epidemic and the need to save the people from this epidemic in a large gathering also influenced the decision.

Last week when media reported his likely taking oath, Chaudhry Nisar denied such reports.

Following differences with PML-N, Chaudhry Nisar contested the 2018 general election as an independent candidate on two National Assembly and two provincial assembly seats.

He won only the PP-10 (Rawalpindi) seat but did not take oath on it.

In 2019, a petition was filed in the Lahore High Court against his failure to take oath. The petitioner asked the court to direct the Election Commission to de-notify Nisar.

PTI’s Momina Waheed had also tabled the resolution against Nisar’s decision to defer his oath-taking.
