Abdul Hafeez Sheikh reaches Karachi, receives unusual protocol

KARACHI, May 17,2022- Former Finance Minister Abdul Hafeez Sheikh reached Karachi and was taken under Sindh Chief Minister’s protocol.

Abdul Hafeez Sheikh, who was Finance Minister in Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government, reached Karachi via Dubai from USA.

Sources said that Abdul Hafeez Sheikh reached home via Dubai flight, while he was carrying any baggage, media reports said.

At the Jinnah terminal, Abdul Hafeez Sheikh was given a very unusual protocol. Plainclothes personnel escorted him out of the airport under tight security.

A large number of police personnel were also stationed outside the lounge at Jinnah Terminal.

Who is Hafeez Shaikh?

Dr Abdul Hafeez Sheikh is known as renowned Pakistani economist who served as Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue Affairs from 11 December 2020 to 29 March 2021.

Previously, he served as an advisor to Prime Minister on Finance and Revenue from April 2019 to December 2020.

Dr Hafeez has served as the Finance Minister of Pakistan between 2010 and 2013 and Provincial Minister for Finance and Planning in Government of Sindh between 2000 and 2002.

He also had been member of the Senate of Pakistan from 2003 to 2006 and again from 2006 to 2012 and again from 2012 and 2018.

Dr Shaikh contested for the 2021 Senate election with support of ruling party PTI, but lost to rival PDM candidate Syed Yousuf Raza Gillani.
