Motorway M-9 has been closed for traffic due to protests at Sohrab Goth in Karachi in the wake of the incidents taken place in different cities and towns of Sindh.

Angry people around Sohrab Goth staged a sit-in on the motorway near Gulzar Hijri.

Protesters pelted stones at the traffic and the traffic was closed after the commotion. The riot and stone pelting shattered the windows of several vehicles.

Police said that the traffic coming and going from Sohrab Goth to the motorway is being diverted to alternative routes.

Motorway police closed the main highway near the Jamali Bridge. Traffic from Hyderabad to Karachi is being diverted to alternative routes.

A heavy contingent of Malir and Karachi East police has been called to Sohrab Goth. While SHOs of different police stations have been directed to reach Sohrab Goth with anti-riots equipment.

Traffic is being diverted from Gulberg to Shafiq turn due to closure of Al-Asif intersection.

According to the traffic police, vehicles are being sent back from Nagan Chowrangi and Buraq petrol pumps.

There are also reports that PPP office in the area was also attacked and ransacked.

Chief Minister’s directives

Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah has taken notice of Sohrab Goth incident.

Sindh Chief Minister said, we will not allow anyone to take the law into their own hands: Chief Minister directs all angry people to remain peaceful he added that this is not a time for competition but for control emotions.

Chief Minister directed police and district administration to disperse the protesters peacefully.

This is a conspiracy, which should not be allowed to succeed, Chief Minister said.
