PMLN lawmaker Javed Latif arrested on treason charges

LAHORE: PML-N MNA Javed Latif was arrested on Tuesday, after Lahore Sessions Court rejected interim bail in a case of inciting people against the state institutions

The prosecutor sought reject the bail application of Javed Latif.

The public prosecutor argued in court that Javed Latif’s controversial statement was tantamount to overstepping his bounds in love with his leader.

He said that the CD of Javed Latif’s statement has been sent for forensics.

The public prosecutor said that Javed Latif was not granted bail at this stage, adding that the section imposed in Javed Latif’s case was not bailable.

During the hearing, Javed Latif’s lawyer argued in court that a conspiracy was hatched to assassinate Maryam Nawaz. Javed Latif said this in the context of the conspiracy.

On March 20, Latif was booked on charges of treason and a case was registered against the MNA on the complaint of a citizen, Jameel Saleem.

According to the FIR, the MNA from Sheikhupura allegedly defamed state institutions and delivered hateful remarks against them. In a TV talk show, Javed Latif had said: “If anything happened to PML-N Vice President Maryam Nawaz, the PML-N will not say Pakistan Khappay.”

His remarks had been roundly criticised by the ruling party members.
