Pakistan lawyers to protest against elevation of Justice Ayesha to Supreme Court

ISLAMABAD: Lawyers announced a nationwide judicial boycott on Thursday January 6, over the elevation of Justice Ayesha A. Malik to the Supreme Court, saying that lawyers fully respect the Judicial Commission and the judiciary, in line with the principle of seniority.

Deviation from the principle of seniority by the judiciary will increase the distance between the bar and the bench, the process will also cause unrest in the judiciary.

According to Pakistan Bar Council, a meeting was held on Monday under the chairmanship of Pakistan Bar in which representatives of Supreme Court Bar, High Court Bar and all provincial bar councils participated.

At the meeting, the lawyers agreed that the lawyers are committed to the independence of the judiciary and true democracy in the country.

The statement said that the Supreme Court takes seriously the process of ignoring the Lahore High Court and the Chief Justice in the appointment process, especially when there is no question about the qualifications and eligibility of these judges.

The statement said that Bar was constantly pushing for making rules and regulations for the process of appointment of judges in the High Court.
