‘Naulong Dam in Jhal Magsi be added in PSDP’
KARACHI: Naulong Dam on Mula River should be made the part of PSDP also the Chirrah Dam should be added into it. These directions were given by the Standing Committee of Water Resources at its meeting.
The meeting of the Standing Committee was held Sindh Secretariat building and was presided over by Nawab Muhammad Yousaf Talpur, MNA.
The meeting was informed that Naulong Dam project was started in 2009 Mula River, about 30 km from Gandawah City in Jhal Magsi district of Balochistan but due to insufficient funds provided by government, the contractor abandoned the contract.
Since then the Naulong Dam construction remained suspended.
The Standing Committee took the serious notice of it and ordered to add the Naulong Dam into PSDP on priority basis.
It was informed that to the Committee that the project of Chirrah Dam is of so much importance to provide water to Rawalpindi and Islamabad. The non-construction of Chirrah Dam can result in severe crises of water in Rawalpindi and Islamabad in future.
The Standing Committee was informed to that Chirrah Dam project is joint project of CDA and Punjab Government . However, now Punjab government is reluctant to provide funds.
Standing Committee directed if Punjab government was interested, it should be constructed jointly. The Standing Committee constituted a Sub-Committee to monitor the both projects.
