‘It’s Pakistan card not Sindh card’, says Nasir Shah

KARACHI: A delegation of Karachi Union of Journalists Thursday called on Sindh Information Minister Syed Nasir Hussain Shah and presented its recommendations to the Sindh Information Minister on the Journalists Protection Bill.

The delegation included Nizam Siddiqui President, Fahim Siddiqui General Secretary, Ejaz Sheikh Senior Vice President and former KUJ General Secretary Ahmed Khan Malik. Information Secretary Rafiq Ahmed Buriro, Director Admin Azeem Shah and Director Press Information Aziz Hakro were also present to assist the provincial minister.

The delegation presented its recommendations to the Sindh Information Minister on the Journalists Protection Bill and the difficulties faced by journalists. The Sindh Information Minister directed the Sindh Information Secretary to include the recommendations and suggestions of the KUJ delegation in the Journalists Protection Bill.

Syed Nasir Hussain Shah asked the Information Secretary to facilitate the process of issuance of Accreditation Card.

Provincial Minister Syed Nasir Hussain Shah said the Sindh government was working on legislation for the welfare and protection of journalists. He said that a universal program for health and welfare of journalists was being brought under the directives of Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari.

Syed Nasir Hussain Shah said that soon we will introduce Sindh Journalists Protection Bill Assembly. He said that grants given to press clubs and journalistic organizations would be audited.

KUJ General Secretary Faheem Siddiqui said that the Sindh government’s Journalists Protection Bill is much better. The KUJ has compared the bill to the Journalists Welfare and Protection Bill, which was enacted at the federal level in 2016 under the Nawaz Sharif era, and the current Federal Government’s Protection of Journalists and Media Professionals Bill, 2020.
