A Guatemala national man, who was traveling without a ticket, hid in the landing gear of an American airlines plane and reached Miami, USA.
The Guatemalan man was safe during the two-and-a-half-hour flight.
A Guatemalan citizen has been handed over to US immigration authorities following the plane’s landing, and an investigation has been launched into the incident.
The U.S. Customs and Border Protection Agency has confirmed the incident and said authorities have arrested a 26-year-old man at Miami International Airport.
He said the man hid in the landing gear section of the plane and arrived here from Guatemala.
The airline said in a statement that its flight from Guatemala to Miami had faced law enforcement agencies over security concerns.
Authorities warned that “persons are taking extreme risks when they try to conceal themselves in confined spaces such as an aircraft.”
This isn’t the first time someone attempted to stow away on a plane. Back in 2019, a man hid in the belly of a Swift Airlines aircraft coming from Havana to Miami. He was taken into custody after being spotted offloading baggage.
