Senior Kashmiri Hurriyat leader Syed Ali Gilani was laid to rest under tight security this morning. He was 92, and had been under house arrest for 12 years.
A foreign news agency in its report said that only neighbors and close relatives were allowed to attend the funeral and burial of Syed Ali Gilani.
According to Indian media, Indian forces also sealed off the graveyard in Haiderpura area where Syed Ali Gilani was buried. A relative of the late Syed Ali Gilani said that Syed Ali Gilani was buried in the cemetery of Haiderpura at 4.30 am.
It may be noted that senior Kashmiri Hurriyat leader Syed Ali Gilani died in custody yesterday.
He was 92, and had been under house arrest by the Indian Army for 12 years.
Syed Ali Gilani was a staunch opponent of Indian occupation of Kashmir and was aware of the right of Kashmiris to self-determination.
President Dr. Arif Alvi, Prime Minister Imran Khan, Army Chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa, PPP chairman Bilwal Bhutto Zardari, Ameer of Jamaat-e-Islami Sirajul Haq, Federal Minister for Information Fawad Chaudhry, Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi and other Hurriyat leaders and other leaders of Pakistan have condoled the death of Syed Ali Gilani .
