Karachi administration reviews progress about removal of encroachments from parks, playgrounds

KARACHI (May 21, 2021): Karachi administration at a meeting reviewed the progress for the implementation of the orders of the Supreme Court with regard to the work being carried out for the removal of encroachments from the parks and playgrounds and action to be taken against the illegal construction at the amenity plots.
The meeting was chaired by the Commissioner Karachi Naveed Ahmed Shaikh.
158 marriage halls removed
The meeting was told that the 158 marriage halls illegally constructed have been removed/demolished and further operation for the demolition of illegal marriage halls is continuing. Commissioner Naveed Shaikh asked the concerned officials to ensure that all marriage halls built on amenity plots/open areas of the city and also on residential premises are removed .
YMCA Ground
The meeting was told that the under the supervision of the city administration/Commissioner Karachi, encroachments in the form of commercial activities have been ceased to take place on the YMCA ground and the construction work for the marriage lawns and offices there have been completely removed/demolished in pursuance of the Supreme Court orders and the work of restoration of sports activities at the YMCA are going on.
The meeting was informed that the plantation work under the supervision of the Commissioner Karachi in the ground is also going on. It was also told that the city administration is making efforts to fully restore the ground and start soon the sports activities with the support of Hockey Association and the YMCA.
“Jogging track has been constructed, tree plantation work have been started and construction/installation of benches would hopefully be completed within three weeks of time “ the meeting told .
Restoration of Aziz Bhatti and Bin Qasim Parks
The meeting also reviewed the work for the restoration of parks such as Aziz Bhatti Park and Bin Qasim. Commissioner ordered the KMC to take immediate action for the removal of debris from the Custom Club which was demolished and restoration of Aziz Bhatti Park for the public.
Other Parks
DG Parks briefed the commissioner about the removal of structure from the Bagh e Ibne Qasim. He briefed the meeting about the work initiated for the restoration and improvement work being carried out at the Bagh Ibne Qasim, He told that more than two thousand saplings have been planted there.
The meeting also decided that the in pursuance of the Supreme Court the abended park located adjacent to the Federation House would be resorted.
Commissioner asked the concerned departments and officials to play their role effectively and to ensure the implementation of orders of Supreme Court with regard to the work of removal of encroachment from the amenity plots, including parks, play grounds and other spaces specified for recreation and amenity purpose
He asked the DCS and Building Control Authority officials to take effective action to stop illegal construction in the city and to take action against those who violated building rules and ensure building rules enforced effectively.
The meeting was attended among others by the Additional Commissioner Karachi –I Asad Ali Khan all deputy Commissioners, Municipal Commissioners of KMC and all DMCs, senior officials of Cantonment boards, Police Pakistan Rangers, KDA, Parks departments of KMC and DMCs civil aviation authority, Cooperation department, Water and Sewerage board, Sindh Building Control Authority.
