Council of Islamic Ideology terms transgender law 'not in line with Shariah'

The Council of Islamic Ideology declared the Transgender law  2018 ‘not in line with Shariah’.

In the declaration issued in this regard, the Islamic Ideological Council emphasized the need to protect the rights of genuine transgenders.

The council said the government should set up a committee to review the Act on Transgender Persons.

In the declaration, it was said that the committee should consist of Islamic Ideology Council, scholars, legal experts, medical experts, while the committee should conduct a detailed review of the law regarding transgenders.

On the other hand, according to the declaration, the Islamic Ideological Council has praised the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Amendment Act 2022.

The Council of Islamic Ideology recommended that other recommendations of the Council regarding the NAB law should also be included.
