Joe Lara, best known for playing Tarzan, is presumed dead

American Joe Lara, best known for playing Tarzan, is presumed dead after a plane crash in Tennessee, BBC reported.

The 58-year-old is among seven people believed killed when a light aircraft crashed into a lake near the town of Smyrna on Saturday.

His dietician wife, Gwen Shamblin Lara, who founded a weight-loss church, is also among the victims.

Lara was killed when a Cessna Citation 501 ISP business jet owned by his wife’s church, Remnant Fellowship Church in Brentwood, crashed into Percy Priest Lake near Smyrna. His wife, her son-in-law, and four members of the Laras’ church also died in the crash

Rescue workers say they found wreckage and human remains at the crash site.

Mr Lara played the lead role in the 1989 TV movie Tarzan in Manhattan before reprising the role in the follow-up TV series Tarzan: The Epic Adventures.

He played leading roles in films: Night Wars, Sunset Heat, American Cyborg, Steel Frontier, Hologram Man, Live Wire 2, Final Equinox, Warhead      Gen., Armstrong, Lima: Breaking the Silence, Operation Delta Force 4: Deep Fault, Strike Zone, Very Mean Men, Doomsdayer, Dead Man’s Run, Death Game, Starfire Mutiny, Summer of ’67.
