11 people including women and children died in stampede during Zakat distribution in Karachi

KARACHI, Mar 31,2023 – As many as 11 people, including women and children, were killed in a stampede during Zakat distribution near Nourus Chowrangi in Site area of Karachi.

According to police officials, a large number of people were present during the distribution of Zakat donation.

Keamari Senior Superintendent of Police Fida Husain Janwari told reporters that the FK Dyeing Company had invited families of its employees for Zakat distribution at its premises at Siemens Chowrangi in SITE area.

Reports suggested that hundreds of women arrived and fearing a large crowd, the company staff closed its doors while inside arrangements were made inside for a queue.

Many women fainted due to heat and rush.

According to the police, during the stampede, the wall of the nearby drain also collapsed. Initial reports said, two children fell into the drain and died, many people were injured after falling into the drain.

According to rescue sources, three children and eight women are among the dead.

Rescue sources further said that many people have also fell unconscious in the incident. Some of them are in critical condition.

According to the police, 15 injured were shifted to Civil and Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, 9 bodies were brought to Abbasi Shaheed and two bodies were brought to Civil Hospital.

According to Faisal Edhi, all the bodies brought to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital are of women, including three girls.

Names of injured

Yasmeena w/o Jori age 40yrs, Malaika d/o Shahid 20yrs, Moduol w/o SaeedZada age 35yrs, Zahida w/o Rafiq age 40yrs, Nazeera w/o Sudhir age 45yrs.

Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah took notice of the incident and summoned a report from Karachi Commissioner.
