Most of complaints related to electric companies

Karachi, Dec 14, 2022 – Ejaz Ahmad Qureshi, Wafaqi Mohtasib (OMBUDSMAN) of Pakistan speaking at a press conference at Wafaqi Mohtasib Secretariat here on Wednesday, said that when he joined services in Wafaqi Mohtasib during 2009, the number of registered cases was approximately 20000, while approximately 106000 cases have been registered this year so far.

Our main concern is not only to dispose the case within 60 days, but also we try our best to implement it within 1 to 3 months. Our decisions are almost 99% implemented, he added.

Mr. Qureshi said that overseas pakistanis are great assets of Pakistsan as they contribute major source of income in the growth of this country. Therefore, Wafaqi Mohtasib has established special wing to facilitate overseas Pakistanis at airports as they have been countering many issues at airports. Our vision is to serve the downtrodden public especially in the case of NADRA, K-Electric, EOBI, Utility Stores Corporation and other organizations that are jurisdiction of Wafaqi Mohtasib.

Addressing to a question, Ejaz Ahmad Qureshi said that the most of the complaints registered at Wafaqi Mohtasib are against electricity companies due to a very huge number of clientage. But we have tried our best to provide speedy and cost free Justice to Public without asking them any lawyer or legal expenses that they may pay for their redressal at other available options to them. We have started holding open Kachehris/Khuli Kachehris to listen to public grievances at different cities.

The Wafaqi Mohtasib urged media to play their vital role among masses to aware them about their rights and the solution to their problems by utilising the platform of Wafaqi Mohtasib.

Earlier, Mr. Qureshi also chaired a meeting with heads of different agencies at Wafaqi Mohtasib Secretariat Karachi today. The Senior Advisor(Regional Incharge) Wafaqi Mohtasib Secretariat Karachi Anwar Haider briefed the overall performance of the regional Wafaqi Mohtasib Secretariat and apprised him that the agencies are comoletely cooperating them regarding disposal and redressal of public complaints.

Adviser to Federal Ombudsman for renovation of JIAP

The Senior Advisor(Regional Incharge) Anwar Haider apprised the Wafaqi Mohtasib that there had been some issues regarding implementation and reporting of the cases previously but now most of the reports are received on first hearing of the cases.

The heads of agencies that were part of the meeting consisted of Amir Zia, Chief Distribution Officer K-Electric, Lt. Col(Rtd) Muhammad Anees Khan, DG NADRA, Imran Maniar, MD SSGC, Capt. Rtd. Asim Khan, Director(Operations) FIA, State Bank, State Life Insurance and other stack holders.
