Special team to investigate Saudi Diplomat’s killing of 2011

Deputy Inspector General of Police Counter terrorism Department Sindh has constituted the special investigation team in the case of assassination of Saudi Diplomat Mr Hassan Qahtani.

On May 16, 20211, an official of Saudi Consulate Hassan Qahtani was killed in a drive by shoot in Defence phase VI area of Karachi

An order issued by the DIG Counter terrorism Department said that on request of Saudi Government, FIR No 162/2011 registered at Darkhshan Police station has been transferred to CTD. The order further said that as the matter is of extreme national importance a fresh investigation team is constituted.

DIG CTD Omar Shahid Hamid will head the team while  Naeem Ahmed DSP, Investigation CTD Karachi, Raja Umar Khitab  officer in-charge Transnational Terrorist Cell, Ali Raza officer incharge Shia militant cell, inspector Sarfraz Ahmed of Inv CTD Karachi (IO of above case), Representative of ISI,  Representative of IB and Representative of Rangers FS.

The first meeting of the committee will be held on Monday.

Police and the Saudi ambassador had said, the second attack on the mission since the killing of Osama bin Laden increased tension in the region.

Media reported in 2011, that four people riding motorcycles opened fire on the Saudi diplomat’s car, a Karachi police official said. The diplomat, a low ranking security official, was on his way to the consulate when the assailants struck.
