Ministry of Defense requests Supreme Court to hold simultaneous elections across the country

ISLAMABAD, Mar 16,2023 – The Supreme Court (SC) asked the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) for details of the amount recovered till date.

The court has also ordered to submit all the details including the amount returned to the government institutions, banks and the public.

At the hearing of Imran Khan’s petition against NAB amendments in the Supreme Court, the court remarked that it should be told how much recovery NAB has made so far and where the money was spent.

The Supreme Court has also asked NAB for the details of which province and how much money was deposited to the federal government.

The NAB prosecutor said in the court that the embezzled amount is given to the government or institution from which it is embezzled.

During the hearing, Chief Justice of Pakistan Umar Ata Bandial remarked that NAB will submit all the details till the next hearing and then court will review it.

The Chief Justice of Pakistan remarked that it is said that NAB has made record recoveries over the years.

He said that with the NAB amendments, now it is the responsibility of NAB to prove benami and assets in excess of income.

Justice Ejaz-ul-Ahsan remarked that a case is made only to prove the financial payment record of benami properties. According to NAB law, a benami owner can be husband or wife, relative or employee.

He said that the NAB amendments have limited the scope of the law instead of expanding it, the prosecution cannot prove benami properties unless the affected party gives evidence.

A 3-member special bench headed by the Chief Justice of Pakistan adjourned the hearing till April 4.
