Rs 3.23 per unit surcharge on electricity consumers: Move in final stage

ISLAMABAD, Mar 17,2023 – The hearing was completed on the request to put a burden of 335 billion rupees on electricity consumers by imposing a surcharge of 3 rupees 23 paisa per unit.

Chairman Nepra said that why is there such a hurry to charge on this head for the next year? Let the public breathe a sigh of relief and added that Nepra will review the data and issue a decision. It will also apply to electricity consumers.

Yesterday, during the hearing, Chairman NEPRA said that the government is in a hurry to increase the surcharge for the next year. The Power Division officials said that the receipts under the circular debt management plan are being implemented.

Member Nepra Maqsood Anwar said that if the government comes again that the revenue requirements are not being met, where will this thing lead again?

This surcharge will continue even later than till 2023-24. Member Nepra Rafiq Shaikh said why consumers should bear the burden of incompetence of electricity companies, if feeders are to be outsourced then what is the need of electricity companies?

What is the government’s plan to end the inefficiency of power companies, which business in the world has a recovery rate of 40%.
