Private medical institutes violating Sindh cabinet decision to face action, Sindh health minister

KARACH,I Dec 31,2021- Sindh Minister for Health and Population Dr. Azra Pechuho and Minister for Universities and Boards Ismail Rahu jointly chaired a meeting on MDCAT and said that action would be taken against private medical institutes which did not follow the decision of Sindh Cabinet.

Jinnah Sindh Medical University has been given the authority to make portals and other arrangements for admission in private institutions.

The meeting was attended by Parliamentary Secretary for Health Qasim Siraj Soomro, Health Secretary Zulfiqar Shah and heads of private medical universities and colleges in Sindh.

Health Minister Dr Azra Pechuho said that after Sindh cabinet decision, the threats issued by PMC to private medical colleges have been irrelevant.

Sindh demands 50% passing marks in admission in medical colleges

“We are receiving complaints from students that private medical colleges are not admitting them on 50% marks,” she said and added that after cabinet decision, private medical institutes/ colleges are bound to give admission to such students.

Sindh Health Minister said that despite many shortcomings and reservations in the test procedure of PMC, the results have been recognized, while at this stage it is also important that it is not mentioned anywhere in the bill of PMC, that 65% marks are mandatory for admission or registration.

She said that if we have decided to form Sindh Medical and Dental Council, then the monopoly of PMC will not be maintained and we will take entry test at provincial level next year.

In case of any action taken by the PMC against any private institutions in Sindh, the provincial government will stand by and defend them. She said that action would be taken by the provincial government against any private university or college which would not accept the decision of Sindh Cabinet.

On this occasion, a notification was also issued regarding the decision to make Jinnah Sindh Medical University a portal for admission in private medical institutes and to delegate the authority of other arrangements.

A committee headed by the Vice Chancellor of Jinnah Sindh Medical University has also been formed which will assist the private medical institutes in the admission process.

Notification

The Government of Sindh has authorized Jinnah Sindh Medical University (JSMU) Karachi as a focal university for dealing admissions in MBBS & BOS in Private Medical & Dental institutes / Colleges in Sindh province for the admission Session 2021-22.

Secretary Health has issued such notification.

The notification said that Jinnah  Sindh  Medical  University  (JSMU) shall  carry  out admissions centrally for all Private Medical & Dental Universities / Colleges in Sindh province and the focal university shall strictly adhere to the decision of Provincial Cabinet taken in the meeting held on dated 200 December, 2021 accordingly.

Admission of students from other provinces in Sindh medical colleges: Health minister worried
