PPP activists booked for rioting at grave of Gen Zia

ISLAMABAD, March 16,2022- PPP activists booked for rioting at gave of Gen Zia in Islamabad, The Margala Police Islamabad have registered a case against PPP for rioting at the grave of late Gen Zia Ul Haq.

One Muhammad Ismail Qureshi claiming to be president of senior vice president of Muslim League (Zia) has lodged an FIR with Margala Police under section PPC 297 (Trespassing on burial places, etc.)

He stated in the FIR that on March 8, a video went viral showing some PPP workers and other miscreants rioted at the grave of late General Ziaul Haque, thus they violated the Islamic value.  He further stated that this has cause anger among the followers of General Zia in over all the world.  Among others one Wasif Ali Khokhar from constituency PP -211 was involved in the act.

What is PPC section 297?

Whoever, with the intention of wounding the feelings of any person, or of insulting the religion of any person, or with the knowledge that the feelings of any person are likely to be wounded, or that the religion of any person is likely to be insulted thereby, commits any trespass in any place of worship or on any place of sculpture, or any place set apart for the performance of funeral rites or as a, depository for the remains of the dead, or offers any indignity to any human corpse or causes disturbance to any persons assembled for the performance of funeral ceremonies, shall be punished with imprisonment of either description for a term which may extend to one year, or with fine, or with both.
