No progress in house officer Parveen Rind's harassment probe

HYDERABAD, Feb 12,2022- A team of health department officers led by Director General of Sindh Health Services Dr Juman Bahuto visited the Peoples University of Medical and Health Sciences for Women, Shaheed Benazirabad, to start a probe into the allegation of harassment and attempted murder levelled by a nurse house officer, Parveen Rind.

Three officials were accused in the complaint of Parveen Rind.

Neither Parveen nor the main suspect appeared before the health department team to record their statements.

Ms Rind was contacted over phone by the team but she said she had lodged a case which was pending in court therefore, she would not record her statement before the inquiry committee.

Ms Parveen Rind has completed her course as nurse and been doing her internship at the hospital since last December.

The suspected official told the team that he would record his statement before the DG Health Services in the latter`s office on Saturday.

The team visited the place of offence identified by Ms Rind and collected some documents.

It also recorded statements of all those who were believed to be related to the matter.

Parveen Rind Case: FIR of sexual harassment and attempt to murder lodged

Meanwhile, Parveen Rind along with her uncle and social activists held a protest demonstration outside the Nawabshah Press Club against delay in the arrest of the main suspect.

On the complaint of Parveen Rind nursing house job officer of Peoples Medical College, police registered a case against PMUH Director Ghulam Mustafa Rajput and three women for injuring and sexual harassment.

Women and children Police station Nawabshah lodged an FIR under section 324 attempt to commit qatl-i-amd, 509 (insulting modesty or causing sexual harassment), 506 (criminal intimidation), 109, 337 PPC.

Parveen Rind stated in FIR that accused Ghulam Mustafa Rajput used to pressurise, harass her for illicit relations, for which she had complained to the authorities.

In FIR Parveen stated that on Feb 9 morning when she was in her hostel room, three wearing masks women entered her room and after closing the door they tried to strangle her. They beat her with kicks and punches. They threatened if I did not keep sexual relations with Director Ghulam Mustafa, they will kill me and hang my body in the ceiling fan.

She further said that finding chance she called her uncle Nihal Khan and told about the whole episdoe. After some time he reached there and took me to police station.

According to the medical report, the woman was found to have been tortured. There are bruises on the throat and hands, swelling on the cheeks too.

On the other hand, the Vice Chancellor of the People’s Medical University has set up a committee to investigate the matter.
