PESHAWAR: At least 16 decayed bodies were recovered from a mass grave in mountainous region of Bobo Khel that borders the city of Nowshera, the district administration confirmed Friday.

The Rescue workers said that those were the bodies of coal miners.

The remains were spotted by a shepherd, and were quite decayed. “They were found in a mass grave,” he added.

Interior Minister Sheikh Rasheed told media that the laborers were buried by the Pakistani Taliban 10 years ago and the complaint of their disappearance was also filed with the police.

Their bodies were found in a mass grave today, he added.

Kamran Bangash, a spokesperson for the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government, confirmed that the bodies were of the miners.

The provincial government would announce compensation for the bereaved families.

in March 2012, more than 50 bodies were found buried in mass graves in the Jowakhi mountainous area. Some of the bodies were of the Shangla coal miners.
