Supreme Court’s verdict: PTI considering options in Punjab

LAHORE, May 17,2022- After Supreme Court’s verdict, PTI is considering different options to use Punjab politics.

Former Punjab Chief Minister Usman Buzdar became active after the decision of the Supreme Court on Tuesday on the presidential reference for the interpretation of Article 63A of the Constitution.

The Supreme Court of Pakistan ruled that the votes of dissident members of the Parliament, cast against their parliamentary party’s directives, cannot be counted.

The court, issuing its verdict on the presidential reference seeking the interpretation of Article 63(A) of the Constitution related to defecting lawmakers, said that the law cannot be interpreted in isolation.

Sources said that Usman Bazdar will consult legal experts, while tomorrow he will meet Chairman Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Imran Khan and brief him on the new situation in Punjab.

On the other hand, sources said that an emergency meeting of the Parliamentary Advisory Council of PTI Punjab was held.

The meeting was attended by 12 senior leaders of PTI Punjab. Meanwhile, in the light of the decision of the Supreme Court, consultations were held on the future course of action.

Sources said that after the change in the numbers game in Punjab, new options are being considered while constitutional experts are also being consulted on the new situation.

On the other hand a meeting of the coalition parties was held under the chairmanship of the Prime Minister in which important issues were discussed.

The allies advised Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to take immediate steps to stabilize the economy.

The allies also suggested that the IMF program be finalized immediately to improve the economy.

At the same time, the coalition leaders pledged to support the government’s tough decisions for the betterment of the economy and said that they are with the government and will be with it in every decision.

During the meeting, it was decided to seek immediate legal opinion on the decision of the Supreme Court.
