Sindh ministers assigned duties in wake of heavy rains forecast in Karachi 

KARACHI Sep 30,2021- Keeping in view the forecast of heavy rains in Karachi from today (Thursday) to October 3, Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah handed over the responsibilities to the provincial ministers for different districts of Karachi.

According to the Sindh government spokesman, Mukesh Kumar Chawla in District South and Saeed Ghani in District East will oversee the arrangements.

Timur Talpur Korangi, Shehla Raza Wasti and Sajid Jokhio will monitor the possible rain situation in Malir district.

In addition, Special Assistant Waqar Mehdi will monitor the situation in District West and Liaquat Askani in Kemari district.

The Meteorological Department has warned that torrential rains could cause urban flooding in Karachi.

According to the meteorological department, Badin, Thatta, Hyderabad and Dadu are also at risk of urban flooding while coastal areas of Makran are likely to receive torrential rains with strong winds.

CAA issues alert

The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) has issued an alert at Karachi Airport in view of possible torrential rains in Karachi.

The alert issued by the Civil Aviation Authority said that small planes should be parked in a safe place and the wings of the planes should be parked with heavy weight to avoid any accident. 

The alert also said that the arrival of birds due to insect infestation in the rain could cause damage to the aircraft, adding that spraying crews and bird shooters should be deployed at the airport.

Badin, Thatta, Umerkot and other coastal areas of Sindh received intense heat and thundershowers last night.

According to sources, crops have also been damaged due to torrential rains. As soon as the rains started, power supply was also suspended in several areas.
