Sindh CM constitutes committee to probe Wednesday's incident

KARACHI, Jan 27,2022- A committee led by Home Secretary is constituted to probe into the MQM dharna took place outside Chief Minister House.

The Sindh Chief Minister has directed the Home Secretary to set up a committee led under him (Home Secretary).

Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah held a meeting with IG Sindh and Commissioner Karachi and held detailed discussion on yesterday’s incident.

The Sindh Chief Minister expressed deep sorrow over the incident.

Police baton-charge, tear-gas MQM-P protesters in Karachi

The inquiry committee will take action against anyone who finds evidence of abuse.

The Chief Minister Sindh said that peace of the city is the responsibility of the government.

On Wednesday, Karachi Police resorted to baton-charged and fired tear-gas, on Wednesday in a bid to disperse the MQM-P protesters outside Chief Minister House leaving several protesters injured.

MQM-P workers and leaders gathered in large numbers during the afternoon hours to stage a protest against the controversial local government bill.

The protesters attempted to reach the Chief Minister’s House for a sit-in. As a result, the flow of traffic was severely affected on the road considered to be the city’s main artery.

The police, however, baton-charged the protesters and used teargas shells in an attempt to dissuade it from entering the red zone.

MQM-P representatives said several protesters including lawmakers were injuries, while the police arrested half a dozen activists.
