From the moment he assumed office, Raja demonstrated a remarkable resolve in addressing the administrative challenges that had long plagued the ECP. Recognizing the importance of a robust administrative framework, he spearheaded efforts to enhance the infrastructure of the ECP Secretariat. Under his guidance, new offices were established across Punjab, including Sargodha, Okara, and Attock. These state-of-the-art facilities have played a crucial role in facilitating smoother electoral processes, improving efficiency, and ensuring that the ECP operates effectively at all levels. This expansion wasn’t limited to Punjab alone; Raja ensured that plots were purchased in other provinces, laying the groundwork for a nationwide enhancement of ECP offices.

Raja’s vision extended beyond mere infrastructure. He implemented significant reforms to streamline the ECP’s operations, ensuring that the institution functioned with greater efficiency and transparency. His leadership was characterized by a refusal to compromise on the dignity and independence of the ECP, a stance that was vividly demonstrated during the controversial NA-75 Daska bye-elections in 2021. Faced with allegations of electoral malpractice, Raja boldly nullified the results, setting a watershed precedent for the integrity of Pakistan’s electoral process. This decision, though met with criticism, underscored Raja’s unwavering dedication to his constitutional duties and his commitment to upholding the principles of free, fair, and inclusive elections.

One of Sikandar Sultan Raja’s most notable achievements has been his instrumental role in conducting local government elections in three provinces: Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK), and Sindh. His commitment to strengthening local governance structures is a testament to his broader vision of a participatory and inclusive democratic framework across Pakistan. This was no small feat, considering the political complexities and logistical challenges involved in organizing elections at the local level. Yet, Raja’s determination ensured that these elections were conducted smoothly, further solidifying the ECP’s reputation as a credible and effective institution.

Raja’s efforts have not gone unnoticed. Under his stewardship, the ECP has ascended to new heights, earning recognition for its impartiality and effectiveness. He has been instrumental in educating the public about the role and responsibilities of the ECP, transforming it into a paragon of democratic integrity. Before his tenure, the ECP was often a misunderstood entity; today, it stands as a beacon of electoral excellence.

Sikandar Sultan Raja’s impact extends beyond administrative and infrastructural reforms. He has been a steadfast advocate for the dignity and independence of the ECP, ensuring that the institution remains free from political influence. His tenure has been marked by a relentless pursuit of transparency, dispelling the clouds of doubt and skepticism that often overshadowed the electoral process. His bold stance during the NA-72 Daska by-elections is just one example of his commitment to electoral integrity. By nullifying the election results, Raja sent a clear message that electoral malpractice would not be tolerated, setting a new standard for future elections.

Despite facing criticism, Raja has remained dedicated to his constitutional duties, organizing free, fair, and transparent elections. His efforts have been pivotal in conducting local government elections in Balochistan, KPK, and Sindh, showcasing his commitment to strengthening local governance. This dedication to upholding the principles of democracy has earned him respect and admiration from both colleagues and citizens alike.

He has also played a crucial role in educating the public about the ECP’s role and responsibilities, transforming it into a respected institution. Before his tenure, many people were unaware of the ECP’s importance; today, it stands as a model of electoral integrity. Raja’s efforts to enhance public understanding of the ECP have included outreach programs, public awareness campaigns, and collaboration with civil society organizations. His tenure has fortified the ECP and reinforced the democratic foundations of Pakistan, ensuring that the people’s will is respected in every election.
