ISLAMABAD, Jan 22,2024: The Election Commission of Pakistan canceled the notification of postponement of elections in NA-83 and NA-85 Sargodha.

The case of postponement of elections in NA 83 and NA 85 Sargodha was heard under the chairmanship of Chief Election Commissioner Sikandar Sultan Raja.

During the hearing, DRO Sargodha and Returning Officers appeared before the Election Commission.

The PML-N candidate told the Election Commission that he received a notice from the returning officer that a candidate has died in your constituency, the death certificate of the deceased candidate is dated January 15. It happened on January 2nd, the funeral prayer was held on January 3rd, there has been falsification in this case, there was a conspiracy to postpone the elections in 2 constituencies, he added. DC Sargodha has also conducted an inquiry into the matter, he request that the elections not be postponed.

DRO Sargodha told the Election Commission that he has conducted an inquiry, in which it was found that Sadiq Ali died on January 2. In the inquiry, the statements of Sadiq Ali’s mother, daughter and Imam-e-Masjid were recorded.

Chief Election Commissioner Sikandar Sultan Raja inquired why the returning officer did not conduct an inquiry before postponing the elections.

“Now it has been proved that Sadiq Ali died on January 2, we were provided with a fake death certificate,” said returning officer NA-85.

Secretary Union Council said that he verified the numberdar and issued the death certificate on the request of the son.

Numberdar told Election Commission that his signature was forged.

On this occasion, the Chief Election Commissioner scolded the Secretary of the Union Council for interfering during the hearing and said that you are doing something wrong and coming here to discuss.

The Election Commission canceled the RO notifications of postponing the elections in the two constituencies of the National Assembly.

Chief Election Commissioner Sikandar Sultan Raja directed that elections will be held in both the constituencies as per schedule and the election process should be continued.
