PTI’s expectations from the Army command changed

Following change in Army the command , Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf – PTI’s expectations from the military establishment have also changed.

Senior PTI leader Fawad Chaudhry told a leading English daily that we do not want the new establishment to give us early elections, but we expect it to remain politically neutral, not take sides and it will not be an obstacle in holding elections.

Fawad Chaudhry was asked if PTI and party chairman Imran Khan also expected the new army chief General Asim Munir to use his influence for early elections. In response, Fawad Chaudhry said that no, we do not want that. Instead, we hope that the establishment will not stand in the way of an early election.

PTI leader said that politically, the army should not take sides with anyone. He said that PTI will win the elections soon for which it has decided to dissolve the Punjab and KP Assemblies and resign from all other Assemblies.

Fawad Chaudhry also referred to Asad Umar’s tweet in which he said that General Asim Munir’s first priority should be to restore the relationship of love and respect between the people and the military high command. Asad Umar said that such a relationship should not be one-sided, such a relationship cannot be maintained by force or pressure. Asad Umar said that due to the decisions of the last 8 months, the relationship between the people and the military command has been badly damaged.

The PTI leader said that the armed forces responsible for the security of the country should continue to be the pride of the nation.

Imran Khan’pledges to resign from assemblies, not to go to Islamabad

When Fawad Chaudhry was asked about his position regarding the amendment of the Armed Forces Act in 2020 (under which the chiefs of the defense forces are allowed to be extended), he said that the PTI is in favor of repealing the Act.

He assured that PTI would support him if anyone took such an initiative. Since the retirement of General Qamar Javed Bajwa and the ousting of Imran Khan from the government, PTI has been putting constant pressure on the military establishment under General Bajwa to pave the way for early elections.

Bajwa was PTI’s beloved figure and admired in the Imran Khan government, but fell out of favor after failing to defeat the no-confidence motion. When Imran Khan was the Prime Minister, he used to praise General Bajwa, who was accused of making Imran Khan win the 2018 election through political manipulation.
