PTI files petition for re-election in NA-249 Karachi

KARACHI: The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has filed a petition with the Election Commission seeking annulment of the by-election in NA-249 Karachi due to rigging.

PTI stated in the petition that before the election, 17,000 votes were transferred from NA-249 Karachi to other cities.

 The PTI has taken the position that the officers of choice have been brought from the education department as presiding officers. The PPP has launched development projects to win over its candidate.

The PTI petition further said that Form 45 polling agents were not handed over at several polling stations in NA-249.

Boycott of recount

The recount of votes in the by-elections in NA-249 was about to begin and candidates from all parties were present in the DRO office. All parties except PPP boycotted the recount.

The boycott of political parties i.e Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz, and Muttahida Qaumi Movement has caused a lot of noise inside and outside the DRO office.

ECP ordered recounting on application of PLM-N.

After declaration of results, PPP and PLM-N top leadership trades allegations and made this seat as high profile.

In the election results PPP’s Abdul Qadir Mandokhel bagged 16,156 votes winning the seat, followed by PML-N’s Miftah Ismail who secured 15,473, unofficial results from polling stations showed. Nazir Ahmed of outlawed TLP receiving 11,125 votes and stood the third.

PSP’s Mustafa Kamal could achieve only 9,227 votes, followed by PTI’s Amjad Afridi with 8,922 votes and MQM-P’s Muhammed Mursaleen with 7,511 votes.
