PPP clinches NA-249 seat, PMLN rejects results
KARACHI: The PPP won the NA-249 seat in by-election held on Thursday in the city’s District West, with unofficial, provisional results showing a close contest between the PML-N and PPP in the final count.
Marred by low turnout of voters, PPP’s Abdul Qadir Mandokhel bagged 16,156 votes winning the seat, followed by PML-N’s Miftah Ismail who secured 15,473, unofficial results from polling stations showed. Nazir Ahmed of outlawed TLP receiving 11,125 votes and stood the third.
PSP’s Mustafa Kamal could achieve only 9,227 votes, followed by PTI’s Amjad Afridi with 8,922 votes and MQM-P’s Muhammed Mursaleen with 7,511 votes.
PML-N rejects results
The PML-N blamed the PPP for attempting to rig the result, saying they would not accept the result without challenging the Election Commission.
After the final count was announced, the PML-N’s Maryam Nawaz said the election had been “stolen” from her party and added “The Election Commission should have withheld the results of this controversial election.”
“Even if it doesn’t withhold the result, this win will be temporary. This seat will return to PML-N soon,” Maryam claimed.

Sindh Information Minister Nasir Hussain Shah asked PPP Vice President Maryam Nawaz to celebrate the defeat of PTI in NA-249 by-election.
Reacting to Maryam Nawaz’s tweet on Twitter, Nasir Hussain Shah said, “You have every right to go to the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) and you must use it, but first let’s congratulate each other on sending the selected PTI to more disgrace with each passing day. Our differences r in place, but the goal is the same. Today’s victory is the victory of all opposition. Let’s celebrate

Meanwhile, the ECP assured that all complaints will be heard in light of the law and if any evidence of irregularity is found, strict action will be taken.
