Khairpur, Nov 14: Researcher Tooba Shafaq defended her Ph. D research on the topic “Feast Furniture of Indus civilization Urban Phase 2600-1900 BCE: Study of Social Stratification through Diet Storing and Serving Pattern in Indus Civilization at a seminar held at Shah Latif University, Khairpur.
Ph. D Open defense Seminar was presided by Prof. Dr. Khalil Ahmed Ibupoto, Vice Chancellor of the university. The research was carried under the supervision of Prof. (Retd.) Dr. Ghulam Mohiuddin Veesar and co-supervision of Prof. (Retd.) Dr. Mastoor Fatima Bukhari.
Speaking on this occasion, Prof. Dr. Khalil Ahmed Ibupoto said that the work of the research scholar will highlight the rich culture and Indus civilization of because our civilization and heritage are rich. This civilization has deep basis in history and has cross through several cultural phases of change and development. The research work of the scholar will uplift the soft image of the institution and Department of Archaeology worldwide.
Ms. Tooba Shafaq said that the Indus civilization is starting from Stone Age till present time. The first Urban Phase dated 2600-1900 BCE has been selected for research. She said many commodities from each corner of Indus land have been traced. The social stratification is one of them and this issue is challenged through feast furniture means, food utensils, so it was necessary to understand the food system which contained the aspect from food procurement to food storage, cooking and serving.
Prof. Dr. Ghulam Mustafa Mashori, Prof. (Retd.) Dr. Ghulam Mohiuddin Veesar, Prof. (Retd.) Dr. Mastoor Fatima Bukhari, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Zahir, Dean of Arts & Social Sciences, University of Education College, Lahore and Prof. Dr. Ibrahim Shah, Head of Department of Archaeology & Social Anthropology, University of Peshawar also spoke on this occasion.
They appreciated the research work of the scholar Tooba Shafaq and said is up to the mark. She has given classification along with strong novelty and originality to present her research that majority of the archaeological objects have hidden potential that which elaborate the ignore sites of information. The ceramic objectives used for food purpose have excellently highlighted the social stratification.
Prof. Dr. Naveed Ahmed Shaikh Director Postgraduate Studies conducted the proceedings of the seminar. The Open Defense was declared as successful.
