Petrol crisis: Sri Lanka closes schools and government offices

COLOMBO: Monitoring Desk – Schools and government offices have been closed in Sri Lanka to control the petrol crisis, while civil servants have been allowed to work from home.

Sri Lankan authorities have announced closure of government offices and schools for two weeks as public transport has been closed due to non-availability of fuel.

According to AFP, the Ministry of Public Administration’s order said that the decision to reduce the number of employees was due to lack of public transport and failure to arrange private vehicles.
Sri Lanka is currently facing its worst economic crisis and has been unable to import grain, medicine and fuel since the end of last year due to lack of adequate financial resources.
