PEMRA asks TV channels to refrain from airing caress/hug scenes in dramas

Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority – PEMRA has issued advice to all Satellite TV channels and has directed them to refrain from airing caress/hug scenes in dramas and properly review the content of the dramas through In-House Monitoring Committee and edit / amend the same by giving due consideration to above reservations and apprehensions of the viewers.
A letter issued to all Satellite TV Channel Licensees, Landing Rights Permission Holders reads, “In continuation to earlier directions of the Authority issued from time to time wherein, it was conveyed that Satellite TV Channels are indulged in airing objectionable dramas/ content based on indecent dressing, caressing, bed scenes, & gestures, sensitive/ controversial plots and unnecessary detailing of event(s), which are highly disturbing, distressing for the viewers and against the commonly accepted standards of decency.”
The letter added, “Forgoing in view, all Satellite TV licensees are required to stop airing such content in dramas, henceforth, and ensure compliance of PEMRA laws in letter and spirit.”

The Pemra letter further said that on the prevalent trends in Pakistani drama industry, PEMRA is not only receiving numerous complaints from general public on Pakistan Citizen Portal (PCP) and PEMRA Complaints Call Center and Feedback System but also criticized on social media/ whatsapp groups. A considerable stratum of the society believes that dramas are not depicting true picture of Pakistani society. Hugs/ caress scenes/ extramarital relations, vulgar/bold dressing, bed scenes and intimacy of married couple are being glamorized in utter disregard to Islamic teachings and culture of Pakistani society.
The Pemra directed all Satellite TV channels are hereby directed to refrain from airing caress/hug scenes in dramas and properly review the content of the dramas through In-House Monitoring Committee and edit / amend the same by giving due consideration to above reservations and apprehensions of the viewers.
