Pakistan Implements Stringent Covid-19 Measures at Airports Amid Global Concerns

Islamabad, Jan 7, 2024: In response to the escalating global Covid-19 cases, the Pakistan Civil Aviation Authority has initiated the enforcement of comprehensive screening guidelines at domestic airports to safeguard public health.

1.  Two Percent of International Flight Passengers to Undergo Screening
   • With immediate effect, the Civil Aviation Authority mandates the screening of two percent of passengers on all international flights arriving in Pakistan. This swift response aims to curb the potential spread of Covid-19 and aligns with the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC) guidelines.
2.  Gradual Implementation of Passenger Screening at Major Airports
   • Major airports across the country are adopting a phased approach to implement passenger screening for Covid-19, following the directives outlined by the NCOC. Two percent of passengers on each flight will undergo rapid antigen tests, enhancing the capacity to identify and isolate potential cases.
3. Daily Fumigation Protocols: Ensuring Sanitized Passenger Lounges
   • The Civil Aviation Authority issues directives to conduct daily fumigation in passenger lounges at airports nationwide. This preventive measure aims to create a sanitized environment for travelers, minimizing the risk of Covid-19 transmission within airport facilities.
4. Airport Staff Support: Collaboration with Border Health Services
   • In a collaborative effort, airport staff has been instructed to provide comprehensive support to Border Health Services officials. This collective approach ensures the efficient implementation of Covid-19 preventive measures, reinforcing the commitment to public health and safety.
