NAB files Tosha Khana Reference against PTI founder and Wife Bushra Bibi

ISLAMABAD, 19,2023: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has officially filed a Tosha Khana reference against Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan and his wife, Bushra Bibi. The reference has been lodged in the accountability court, as confirmed by sources close to the matter.

Sources reveal that the Accountability Court’s Registrar Office has initiated the examination of the NAB Tosha Khana reference. NAB Prosecutor Sohail Arif, along with investigating officers, reportedly filed the reference against Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi.

It is noteworthy that this year, the federal government publicly disclosed records spanning approximately 21 years of Tosha Khana. The records, covering the period from 2002 to 2023, were uploaded on the Cabinet Division website.

Earlier this year, on August 5, 2022, Judge Humayun Dilawar of the District and Sessions Court of Islamabad rejected a plea challenging the admissibility of the Tosha Khana case. Subsequently, PTI Chairman Imran Khan was sentenced to three years of imprisonment and fined one lakh rupees.

On August 5, 2022, Speaker National Assembly Raja Pervez Ashraf advocated for the disqualification of former Prime Minister Imran Khan for allegedly not disclosing gifts received from Tosha Khana in his assets. This request came from members of the political alliance Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM), and a reference was sent to the commission.

The Election Commission of Pakistan, on August 18, 2022, ordered former Prime Minister Imran Khan to provide documents related to the Tosha Khana reference. On September 7, 2022, Imran Khan submitted his written response to the Election Commission regarding the Tosha Khana reference. The unfolding legal proceedings have put the PTI founder and his wife under increased scrutiny.
