LHC lays down rules for investigation of crimes related to religious beliefs

LAHORE, Nov 13,2022- Justice Tariq Saleem Sheikh of Lahore High Court laid down rules for the investigation of crimes related to religious beliefs. The court declared that the police officer should determine the correct mental state of the accused while investigating.

The court issued a written decision to dismiss the case of insolence against the citizen in the Mianwali police station.

The court declared the 11-page written decision as a judicial precedent and directed the Registrar Lahore High Court to send a copy to the IG Punjab for taking steps in the light of the decision.

It is said in the judgment, that in case of doubt about the mental state, the police should get a psychological evaluation from the competent forum. It is not allowed, a person cannot be punished for his dreams, according to the decision, the law in Pakistan protects mentally ill persons, mentally ill persons should be protected from punishment and they should be treated.

According to Sigmund Freud, dreams are desires, which we try to fulfill in real life, many times the mind represses the evil desires but they come out strangely in the dream, no one can be tried who is delusional. Be and could not defend themselves.
