Kuwaiti company awarded contract to lay Nabisar water pipeline for Thar coal field

KARACHI, (June 24, 2021): Sindh government hires Kuwait-based company Enertech Water Pvt to lay Nabisar-Vanjhiar pipeline in Thar

Sindh CM’s spokesman said, this water will be provided to the power plant at Thar Coal Field.

The Sindh government signed a concession agreement with Kuwait-based Enterak Water Limited.

Abdullah Al Mutairi, Deputy Under-Secretary of Kuwait, Nasir Abdul Rehman Al-Mutairi, Ambassador of Kuwait to Pakistan, Syed Sajjad Haider, Ambassador of Pakistan to Kuwait, and Abdullah Al-Mutairi, CEO of Enertech Company participated in the signing ceremony of the agreement via video link.

Minister for Energy Imtiaz Sheikh, Minister for Information Nasir Shah, Minister for Irrigation Sohail Anwar Siyal, Principal Secretary Sajid Jamal Abro, Secretary Energy, Secretary Irrigation, DG of Public-Private Partnership Unit Khalid Sheikh attended the signing ceremony.

Speaking on the occasion Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah said, this is an important day for the country’s energy sector and added that Thar Coal Field will be provided 45 cusecs of water. He further said the total cost of the project is Rs 30.1 billion.

Kuwaiti company to lay 60km water pipeline from Nabisar to Wenjhiar

Enertech Company will build a water tank on Nabisar.

Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah said that the reservoir will have water for 75 days.

Kuwaiti company’s delegation visit in Feb

In February 5, 2021, a delegation of Enertech led by its CEO Abdullah Al Mutairi visited Pakistan and also met with the Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah. The visiting delegation told the chief minister that they were interested in working with the provincial government in the water sector, including distribution, solar systems, and cattle breeding for Hilal meat.

“Our company would make direct investment and where necessary they would work on PPP mode,” the CEO Abdullah Al Mutairi said.

The chief minister had said that his government was launching a water scheme to provide tap water in different districts of Karachi. “We would welcome you if the Kuwaiti company started a water distribution system in the city,” he said.

CM Sindh had told that the provincial agriculture department has vast cattle farming centers. “We would welcome Enertech to work with the agriculture department to promote new calf breeds and grow them for export of Hilal meat,” he said and added another project of installation of solar tube wells was in the pipeline. The Kuwaiti company can participate in the project and extend helping hands to install solar tubewells in the province.

EnerTech is a fully owned subsidiary of National Technology Enterprises Company (NTEC). Established in 2012.

Company issued tender notice last year

The Enterak had invited tender in August 2020 for carrying out this work.

Sindh budget for 2021-22

The budget document of the Sindh government for financial year 2021-22 mentions this project under head of “Supply of Industrial Water from Nabisar to Vajhair.”

The document read: “After becoming a key strategic partner in the mining project, GoS took upon itself to provide key infrastructure which is a necessary pre-requisite to conducting mining and power generation activities. The biggest hurdle in the establishment of new Power.

Plants with generating capacity of 1590 MW in Thar block 2 was to provide industrial grade water. To address this problem, the GoS is launching the biggest water supply project for the power plants under Public Private Partnership mode. The project is to be completed in record time of one year after the financial close.”
