KMC’s tax collection thru K Electric under active consideration
KARACHI Sep 08, 2021 – Sindh government has floated a proposal tax collection of KMC through K Electric bills.
Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah chaired a meeting of K Electric and KMC here on Wednesday. The meeting discussed the tax collection of KMC and DMCs through K Electric bill.
The meeting was attended by Energy Minister Imtiaz Sheikh, Administrator KMC Murtaza Wahab, Principal Secretary Sajid Jamal Abro, CEO Electric Monis Alvi, Director KE Haris Jami and others.
Chief Minister said we want to improve local tax collection and financially strengthen the local bodies of Karachi.
KMC collects 13 different types of taxes, and now KMC wants to collect two taxes i.e fire tax and conservancy tax through K Electric bill.
Chief Minister said KMC currently collects Rs 210 million annually from these two taxes.
K Electric will receive Rs 100 to Rs 200 for KMC through its bill. K Electric will charge these two KMC taxes from its 2.56 million customers.
If this collection agreement is signed, KMC will get Rs 9 billion annually, hence KMC will be strong and will be able to carry out development work in a better way, Chief Minister Sindh said.
Chief Minister Said, the Sindh government will talk to the federal government on this proposal and get legal permission to Electric to collect KMC taxes.
Electric and KMC reached a recovery agreement, K Electric’s bills on KMC will also be paid easily, CM Sindh.
Administrator KMC Murtaza Wahab has drawn up this comprehensive recovery plan.
