Judicial Commission meeting: Three judges elevated to Supreme court

The Judicial Commission under the chairmanship of Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Umar Ata Bandial recommended the appointment of three judges including Justice Athar Minallah to the Supreme Court.

The appointment of four judges in the Supreme Court was considered in the Judicial Commission meeting.

The Judicial Commission has recommended the appointment of Islamabad High Court Chief Justice Athar Minallah to the Supreme Court, reports said.

According to the sources, the names of Justice Hasan Azhar Rizvi, Justice Shahid Waheed were recommended for the Supreme Court, while the name of Justice Shafi Siddiqui was deferred.

Reports said that the Judicial Commission unanimously recommended the name of Justice Athar Minallah, while no consensus could be reached in the meeting on the name of Justice Shafi Siddiqui.

The recommendation for the appointment of Justice Shahid Waheed, Justice Hasan Azhar Rizvi was made in the ratio of five to four, reports added.

Justice Qazi Faez Isa, Justice Sardar Tariq Masood, Justice Mansoor Ali Shah and representative of Pakistan Bar Akhtar Hussain opposed the names of Justice Shahid Waheed and Justice Hasan Azhar Rizvi.
